How to Hire the Right Contractor
Maybe you're in the middle of wanting to choose a contractor to do your next project. Maybe you've had a bad experience in the past and want to know how to avoid it in the future. Regardless of where you are in the process, these tips will help you decide how to hire a contractor.
** Before we move forward, leave us a comment telling us one quality that you look for when hiring a contractor! **
Before you even pick up your phone to call, make sure that you've spoken to other people. Reviews speak for themselves, and finding someone with integrity who will also do quality work, should be a top priority.
This one kind of goes hand-in-hand with the first tip. You'll need to find out what past clients thought of their projects and the communication between them and the contractor. At Lego Drywall, we keep open communication through each step of the project to ensure that our clients feel like they're apart of the work being done.
Set a Payment Schedule
Another good idea is to work out a payment schedule ahead of time. This will save you, and your contractor, a lot of headaches and stress. Typically your contractor will let you know what kind of payment structure they prefer.
Don't Just Look at the Price
You've heard of quality over quantity, right? How about, you pay for what you get? Keep both of these in mind when choosing a contractor. You might (and most likely will) need to pay a little bit more for a higher quality result. Keep in mind material cost and time. These will both affect the price.
Put it in Writing
This is pretty obvious, but it's worth noting. Even if someone has amazing reviews, we still recommend getting your deal in writing. This not only helps you as the client, but also insures the structure and gives the contractor peace of mind. Make sure that your contract has details of every step of the project to ensure that everyone is on the same page.
